The Jobs of Yesteryear series combines history and surrealism to tell the stories of obsolete jobs. A contemporary glimpse into the past, these mixed media paintings serve as a reminder of a time and stories long forgotten.

This particular Job of Yesteryear mixed media painting features a raker. Farmers are among the oldest jobs and the rake is one of the first tools they developed to help them clear and work the land in order to grow food. The earliest examples of rakes have been found in China dating back to 1100 B.C. and were made entirely of wood. Rakes were later developed with metal to add strength with a more modern version being circular rakes pulled behind a tractor.

The Raker II was created with acrylic paint. The long-limbed character was cut from paper and collaged with kraft paper. The Jobs of Yesteryear are thought-provoking conversation pieces that will bring an air of history and whimsy to any room.
