The Jobs of Yesteryear series combines history and surrealism to tell the stories of obsolete jobs. A contemporary glimpse into the past, these mixed media paintings serve as a reminder of a time and stories long forgotten.
This particular Job of Yesteryear mixed media painting features a lawyer. The history of lawyers begin in ancient times when “orators” would plead the cases of their friends before the courts. In Ancient Rome, the profession was formalized and the orators could be hired by anyone with enough money. Like today, these early lawyers were expected to have researched the laws relevant to the case they were arguing. This research was always done by studying the printed word up until the late 20th century when the computer and its vast access to information replaced innumerable law books that were in use prior.
The Lawyer was created with acrylic paint, and the long-limbed character was cut from paper and collaged with kraft paper. The Jobs of Yesteryear are thought-provoking conversation pieces that will bring an air of history and whimsy to any room.
