The Jobs of Yesteryear series combines history and surrealism to tell the stories of obsolete jobs. A contemporary glimpse into the past, these mixed media paintings serve as a reminder of a time and stories long forgotten.

This particular Job of Yesteryear mixed media painting features a bookseller. The selling of books dates back to ancient times when the first libraries were established around 300 B.C. Personal libraries have been fashionable since the Romans and the businesses that help stock these libraries have been a vital fulcrum of information and ideas. This painting is based on a 76-year-old bookseller who still operates in Rabat, Morocco. he never locks his books up at night because he believes that those who can't read won't steal books, and those who can aren't thieves. Bookselling has largely moved online with the most prevalent source being Amazon.

The Bookseller was created with acrylic paint and oil pastels. The long-limbed character was cut from paper and collaged with kraft paper. The Jobs of Yesteryear are thought-provoking conversation pieces that will bring an air of history and whimsy to any room.
